Having Fun With iSight and Photo Booth

A few years back my brother Stephen hosted a party. He set-up a camera on a tripod and asked his guests to take a self-portrait using a a shutter release cable. For years I thought about this idea of "party self-portraits" and waited for an opportunity to invite my guests to do the same. This past Saturday Lisa and I hosted a Summer Party and using Mac iSight and Photo Booth I invited my friends to take their own self-portraits. Here's a few of my favorites. Looking for Photo Booth?

One of the highlights of the just-released iMac G5 models is Photo Booth, a fun little application that works with the built-in iSight camera in the iMac. With the click of your mouse the screen lights up like a flash bulb and iSight takes a picture. From there you can edit it, add effects, email it, add it to iPhoto, or select the photo as your iChat Buddy picture.

The problem with this application is that its only available to those who own the new iMac. But is it really? Open up Google and type "photobooth.zip." On the first page you'll see "MacOSX.nl - Photo Booth voor u getest." Open that German site and look for "http://www.semplicedesign.com/apps/photobooth.zip." Click that link, install the application and in a few minutes you'll be taking pictures of yourself like these:
